Lies: Wenger vs Mourinho

During Arsenal's Carling Cup final against Chelsea in February, Adebayor was sent off during a brawl between the players, for a supposed punch aimed towards Frank Lampard. Wenger reacted angrily to this, saying, "The officials made a mistake. Adebayor did not punch Lampard and didn't intend to, we can prove it. It is a lie, I don't accept it. It is regrettable that it punished the club. The club deserves more respect than that, it is undeserved."

Wenger has been hit this week with a £2,500 fine for this comment, with the commission judging that the use of the word 'lie' constituted improper conduct.

It is no surprise therefore that Ferguson reacted angrily to the FA taking no action on Jose Mourinho for his recent comments about Ronaldo. "If he [Ronaldo] says it's a lie Manchester United have conceded some penalties this season which have not been awarded against them he's lying," Mourinho said. "Ronaldo is a great player, perhaps the best in the world. But he needs to be mature enough to accept you cannot argue against facts. And if you lie then you may never reach the level which he aspires to as a footballer."

Should Mourinho have been fined for his outburst?

While it is shame the way JM talks, it is not the case for the FA as none of their officials was involved. At the same time, AW's statement was regarding match official "on duty". The FA had to react.
