Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0, with a stunning 60 yard strike from Alonso last night. Xabi says he wants to do it again, whilst Rafa thought he should have passed. Liverpool no longer have a game in hand, and are 6 points behind League leaders Portsmouth, and 5 points behind title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

In the Carling Cup, Wigan, Middlesborough and Manchester City all were knocked out by lesser opposition. Stuart Pearce has taken the criticism upon his own shoulders for City’s recent poor form, after losing 13 of their last 16 games.
