Human Rights Abuser In Premiership
The former Thai president, Thaksin Shinawatra, finally completed a takeover of Manchester City this summer.
A spokesperson from Human Rights Watch (HRW) has today released a statement condemning Shinawatra.
“Under any definition, I don’t see how Thaksin can be fit and proper,” HRW’s Brad Adams said.
“I’ve written a letter to the Premier League asking what this test means.”
The allegations against Thaksin are that, during his time as Thai prime minister, he:
- Presided over extrajudicial killings during the notorious “war on drugs”. HRW says 2,500 people were killed during one three-month period at the start of 2003.
- Told the Thai military to employ any means to suppress an insurgency in the south of Thailand.
- Suppressed the Thai media.
Shinawatra’s lawyer rejects these claims however, saying, “The civil and human rights charges against him have never been proven.
“My client deserves to be treated as an innocent man, until proven guilty.
“So far there hasn’t been any solid evidence against him.”

You are absolutely correct in all you say. I worked in Thailand for five years during his time. Firstly he bought his way in to power. Trucks went round paying people. Secondly he hated foreigners and a foreign person was not allowed to own land or own a house under his rulings. Does he not own a house in London ? He made foreigners lives so difficult.
This is a country where English peopel are rotting in jail for being caught smoking a joint. 10-25 years !!!!
Also all English people’s lives were made a misery with constnat restrictions on our staus in the country. Even if you were married to a Thai you still had to report every 90 days to the police. You were not allowed to work or own nothing !
The very thought that Manchester City heirachy accept this and even defend his positon is disgusting. I don’t think any of them ever lived in Thailand ? Well I did and therfore I know what was going on.
His whole family are greedy horrible people who cheated the country out of billions of dollars while poor people suffered.
He did nothing buy restrict foreign people and make all our lives difficult. How this man is even allowed to stay in the UK is beyond me and mnay thousands of others who lived in Thailand during that time.
