Croatia Warned Over Racist Behaviour

In Euro 2004, Croatia faced France. Their fans made monkey noises every time a black player touched the ball, and they turned up at the stadium with several white power banners. UEFA were quick to condemn these actions, and promised to have people on look out during Croatia’s games.

During Croatia’s World Cup game against Italy this August, more racist behaviour was on show. The fans were making Nazi salutes during the game, and at one point, fans stood in the stands in the shape of a swastika.

UEFA are currently investigating claims of racism by Benfica fans against Manchester United players in the recent match. England players Richardson and Brown were amongst the players targeted. However, UEFA have said today that they will ”monitor events closely” during the Croatia vs England game, which will be played tomorrow. If Croatia’s fans continue this despicable racist behaviour, they could find themselves excluded from Euro 2008 altogether.
